Um pouco mais sobre Thiago
Sua família ...
Seu pai - José - é um um ótimo marcineiro e projetista, apesar de ter perdido metade do dedo indicador em um acidente de trabalho. Desde então Sr. José passou a receber um pequeno auxilio acidente, mas nunca parou de trabalhar. É um Batalhador!
Sr. José tocava acordeão quando era jovem e incentivou Thiago para tocar música. José está muito orgulhoso de Thiago e parece que eles têm uma ligação especial .
Sra. Sueli, sua mãe, tem, igualmente muito orgulho, mas está menos envolvida com a música. Ela tocava clarinete quando jovem . Thiago tem dois irmãos mais velhos - Lincoln e Lucas - e uma irmã - Gizelle. Um de seus irmãos mais velhos também gosta de música e de acordo com Thiago , é um bom trompetista.
Dificuldades crescendo...
Thiago nasceu em Barra Mansa. Sua família mudou-se para Piraí e mais tarde, em 2000, mudou-se para Taubaté, onde estão até hoje. Segundo Thiago, ele vive em um bairro muito perigoso e violento, chamado Parque Três Marias. O tráfico de drogas e mortes, são constantes. Segundo ele, já perdeu muitos amigos em tiroteio. Toda sua família ainda vivem juntos em uma casa (apenas Lincoln, tem sua própria família e vive distante) . Thiago e seus dois irmãos (Giza e Lu) compartilham um mesmo quarto, onde há duas camas e o que sobrar, dorme no colchão no chão.
Inicio de sua jornada ao piano...
Com cerca de 10 anos , Thiago descobriu um teclado em cima do guarda-roupa. Ele já havia tocado outros instrumentos antes (como violino, trompete, guitarra, bateria), mas parece que foi "amor à primeira vista " quando encontrou o tecladinho abandonado. O primeiro lugar que ele tocou foi na igreja, onde o maestro imediatamente recomendou que ele fosse no ensaio. Aos 12 anos ele foi aceito no Conservatório de Música de Taubaté e quando completou 17, foi para Barra Mansa iniciar sua jornada profissional, estudando na UBM (Universidade de Barra Mansa ) e juntando-se ao Projeto Música nas Escolas (onde David Chew o descobriu e levou-o para fazer uma audição para Art & Transformação social que teve lugar no TBS (Escola Britânica) da Urca em 2011).
Uma viagem mágica ...
Thiago realmente se destacou em sua audição , embora a TBS tivesse um piano horrível e terrívelmente desafinado naquele dia. Havia centenas de adolescentes, era a audição de muitas ONGs e apesar de piano de Thiago ser pobre, ele tocou com tal floreio, prazer e confiança de que o painel de juízes tinha certeza de que ele seria um ótimo complemento para a equipe viajar para CalArts naquele ano. Das centenas que fizeram testes naquele dia, um total de 6 adolescentes foram selecionados - 4 de ONGs e 2 de TBS para estudar em CalArts, Los Angeles , durante 4 semanas , em julho de 2011.
Um final feliz (ou novo começo ) ...
Acaba de ser oferecida a Thiago uma bolsa de estudos na Berklee College of Music, a escola número 1 no ensino de Musica nos Estados Unidos. E a este talentoso jovem foi oferecida a bolsa máxima dada a estrangeiros. Thiago chegou muito longe, mesmo assim, atingir o seu sonho continua distante, alem do ele e sua família, sem auxilio, poderiam garantir .

his family...
His dad – José is a great carpenter and designer, even though he lost a part of his pointer finger in a work related accident. Since José’s accident, he receives a small amount of disability compensation, but he never stopped working. He is a warrior!!! José used to play the accordion when he was younger and encouraged Thiago to play music. José is extremely proud of Thiago and it seems they have a very special bond. Sueli, his mother, is also very proud of Thiago, but is less musically inclined. She used to play clarinet as a young girl. Thiago has two older brothers named Lincoln and Lucas, and a sister named Gizelle. One of his older brothers also loves music, according to Thiago, and is a very talented trumpeter.
Hardships growing up...
Thiago was Born in Barra Mansa in the state of Rio de Janeiro. His family moved to Piraí and later in 2000 moved again to Taubaté where they remain till today. According to Thiago, he resides in a very dangerous and violent neighborhood called Parque Tres Marias. The drugs and deaths are commonplace in their neighborhood. Thiago has lost many friends in shootouts. His entire family all live together in a house (with the exception of Lincoln, who has his own family and lives far away.) Thiago and his two siblings (Giza and Lu) share the same room where there are two beds and the third sleeps on a mattress on the floor.
Thiago started playing the piano...
When he was about 10 years old, Thiago discovered a keyboard that had been abandoned on top of an armoire in his room. He had played other instruments before such as the violin, trumpet, guitar, and drums, yet it was love at first site once he found that old keyboard. The first place he played was at church, where the maestro immediately recommended that he go to a rehearsal. At the age of 12, he was accepted to the Music Conservatory of Taubaté and when he turned 17, he ended up in Barra Mansa to begin his journey to become a professional musician, and initiated his studies at the University of Barra Mansa. It was there where he took part in the Music in Schools Project (and where he was discovered by Sir David Chew, his mentor, and renowned cellist, who invited him to audition for the Art and Social Transformation project that was held in 2011 at the British School of Rio de Janeiro in Urca.
A magical Journey...
Thiago really stood out during this audition, even though the piano was really out of tune. There were hundreds of young adults competing, representing many NGO´s and even though Thiago´s piano was in such poor condition, he played with such grace, pleasure, and confidence that the panel of judges were certain that he would be a great asset to the group that would be traveling to CalArts that year. Only 6 candidates were chosen amongst hundreds who auditioned that day, 4 from NGO´s and 2 British School students were to study at CalArts, in Los Angeles for 4 weeks, in July of 2011.
A Happy Ending (or new beginning)...
Just now Thiago has been offered a scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music, the number 1 school in America to study music and the most prestigious and well-respected university for music in the USA.
Thiago has come so far, that is true, yet achieving his dream is still out of his reach, and his family cannot possible afford to help him financially without help.This is why we need your help to make his beautiful dream come true…..
